PARISIAN SALON AND THE ALICE B. TOKLAS COOK BOOK
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 21, 2017 (3:00 PM - 6:00 PM)
Discuss the history of the Parisian Salon with museum educator and trained chef Maite Gomez-Rejon of ArtBites, focusing on the informal conversations and flow of ideas found in Gertrude Stein's home during the innovative Belle Époque, and its influence on later generations, including an artist who will share stories of his Parisian life and inspiration. Explore The Alice B. Toklas Cook Book, published in 1954 by Stein's partner, as a best-selling cookbook and popular memoir of their vanguard life together. Then, with Maite's guidance, prepare and savor a unique, yet simple, meal inspired by it. ~ Ms. Gomez-Rejon has an MFA from the Art Institute of Chicago, and has lectured at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Museum of Modern Art, J. Paul Getty Museum, and Los Angeles County Museum of Art, among other cultural institutions. She also holds a Grand Diplome from the French Culinary Institute, and has worked as a private chef, and in restaurants in France and Mexico.
